In this lecture, Iryna Mykhailova will explore Christian philosophy and Renaissance humanism through the analyses of Étienne Gilson and Paul Oskar Kristeller as well as reflect on the origins and legitimacy of Kristeller’s criticism.
Iryna Mykhailova is a historian of Renaissance philosophy, currently holding the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship at Harvard University’s Department of History. Her research expertise primarily centers on Renaissance philosophy and its historiography. Dr. Mykhailova’s current research project, titled “Humanism behind the Iron Curtain: Italian Renaissance Studies in the Soviet Union,” is sponsored by the European Commission and is hosted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy, with a two-year research phase at Harvard University. She has been a recipient of the Fulbright Award (2014-2015, SUNY Albany) and Moritz Stern Fellowship in Modern Jewish Studies (2017-2019, Lichtenberg-Kolleg of Göttingen University, Germany).
